Kids bikes

Use the child’s height and, more importantly, their inseam rather than their age. Measure from the floor to the crotch with shoes on, then match it to the inseam range on each product page. A beginner should be able to sit on the saddle and comfortably touch the ground.

They teach different things. A balance bike teaches balance and steering first, which is the harder skill, and often makes the move to a pedal bike quicker. Training wheels let a child learn pedalling first while the bike stays upright. The Ryden Balance Bike and the Kids 12 cover both routes.

When the saddle is already at its maximum height and their legs are cramped, when they can no longer straighten their arms comfortably on the bars, or when the bike feels twitchy because they have outgrown it. Move on height and inseam, not birthdays.

Every Ryden kids bike arrives approximately 85 to 90% assembled. The handlebar, front wheel, pedals, saddle and training wheels (where included) may need installing or adjusting. Always check brake function and fastener torque before the first ride.

A correctly fitted cycling helmet on every ride, plus closed-toe shoes. Knee and elbow protection is sensible for beginners and for anyone riding trails or bike parks.
