- ✓ Kid-sized brake controls: short-reach brake levers designed for smaller hands help young riders learn braking comfortably
- ✓ Fully enclosed chain guard: keeps little fingers, shoelaces, and clothing away from the moving chain and sprocket
- ✓ Designed to grow with your child: adjustable saddle and handlebar provide room for fit adjustments as the child grows
Making a child’s first pedal bike simple, comfortable, and exciting
The Ryden Kids 12 is designed to make a child’s transition to their first pedal bicycle simple, comfortable, and exciting.
Rather than shrinking an adult bicycle, the Kids 12 uses child-specific proportions. Its compact aluminum frame, short crank arms, narrow handlebar, small grips, and appropriately sized brake controls are designed around the needs of young riders.
The lightweight construction is particularly important for beginners. A bicycle that is easier for a child to manoeuvre can make starting, stopping, turning, and recovering from small mistakes less intimidating.
For children who are not yet confident balancing independently, the bike includes removable training wheels. Parents can remove them once the rider develops sufficient balance and steering control. The single-speed drivetrain eliminates the complexity of gears, so children simply pedal, steer, and brake.
A fully enclosed chain guard provides additional protection around the drivetrain, while rounded components and child-sized contact points contribute to a more comfortable riding experience. The 12 x 2.0-inch pneumatic tires provide grip and cushioning on sidewalks, paved paths, parks, and other appropriate riding surfaces.
With its adjustable saddle and handlebars, the Ryden Kids 12 can accommodate growth while maintaining an appropriate riding position. For many children moving from a balance bike or learning to pedal for the first time, it is the entry point into the Ryden range.

Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): It is generally intended for children approximately 2.5 to 4 years old, although actual suitability depends more on the child’s height, inseam, and riding ability than age alone.
Is this a balance bike?+
No. The Ryden Kids 12 is a pedal bicycle. It includes pedals, a drivetrain, brakes, and removable training wheels. If your child has not yet learned to balance, the Ryden Balance Bike is the better starting point.
Does it come with training wheels?+
Yes. Removable and adjustable training wheels are included as standard.
Can the training wheels be removed?+
Yes. They are designed to be removed when the child develops enough confidence and balance to ride independently.
Can a child coming from a balance bike ride it without training wheels?+
Yes. Children who have already developed strong balancing skills on a balance bike may be able to transition directly to the Kids 12 without using the training wheels.
Why is the bike single-speed?+
Young beginners generally benefit from simplicity. A single-speed drivetrain allows the child to concentrate on balancing, steering, pedalling, and braking instead of changing gears.
Does the bike have hand brakes?+
The bike features a child-sized front hand brake together with a rear coaster brake, giving young riders an opportunity to learn hand-braking while retaining an intuitive pedal-back braking option.
Is the chain covered?+
Yes. A fully enclosed chain guard helps prevent clothing, shoelaces, and fingers from accidentally contacting the drivetrain.
Can the saddle height be adjusted?+
Yes. The saddle height can be adjusted as the child grows, from approximately 43 cm to 53 cm.
Are the handlebars adjustable?+
Yes. The cockpit provides adjustment to help maintain a comfortable riding position as the child grows.
Where can the Ryden Kids 12 be ridden?+
It is designed for appropriate recreational surfaces such as sidewalks where cycling is permitted, parks, paved paths, driveways, and other supervised riding areas. It is not designed for BMX tricks, jumps, or mountain-bike trails.
How much assembly is required?+
The bicycle arrives approximately 85 to 90% assembled. Depending on shipping configuration, installation or adjustment of components such as the front wheel, handlebar, pedals, training wheels, and saddle may be required.
Should a child wear a helmet?+
Yes. Children should wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet whenever riding, along with any other protective equipment appropriate to their riding environment.
What happens when my child outgrows the Kids 12?+
The next step in the Ryden range is the Ryden Kids 16, chosen on the child’s height and inseam rather than age alone.
What warranty is included?+
A 5-year limited warranty on the frame, a 2-year limited warranty on the fork, wheels and brakes, and a 1-year limited warranty on other components. Normal wear items such as tires, tubes, brake pads and grips are excluded.
