Front derailleurs
Ryden mechanical front derailleurs for 2× road, mountain and city/hybrid drivetrains and 3× touring and trekking triples, in braze-on, clamp and direct-mount versions for 7- to 11-speed drivetrains and selected 12-speed road systems.
Choosing a front derailleur
Match your chainrings
A front derailleur’s cage is shaped around a chainring size. The Road Double suits 46–53T outer rings, the City/Hybrid 42–48T and the MTB 34–38T, while the Triple moves the chain across three-ring cranksets such as 44/32/22T and 48/38/28T.
Match your drivetrain speed
Cage width is speed-specific, so choose the version for your rear speed: 10- to 12-speed on the Road Double, 7- to 10-speed on the Triple, 9- to 11-speed on the MTB, and 8- to 10-speed on the City/Hybrid. The 12-speed road, 10-speed triple and 11-speed MTB versions suit selected drivetrains only.
Match your frame
A braze-on derailleur bolts to a tab on the frame, and a clamp derailleur wraps around the seat tube, so measure the tube before choosing a clamp size. Check how the frame routes the cable too: top pull or bottom pull.
Match your shifter
The front shifter needs the right number of positions (two for 2×, three for 3×) and a cable pull that matches the derailleur. A matching speed label alone doesn’t guarantee that, so contact us if you’re unsure.
Frequently asked questions
Which front derailleur do I need?+
Start with your crankset. Road doubles such as 50/34T or 52/36T use the Road Double, compact mountain doubles such as 36/26T use the MTB, 44–48T city and trekking doubles use the City/Hybrid, and three-ring cranksets use the Triple. Then choose the version for your drivetrain speed and frame mount.
What’s the difference between braze-on and clamp?+
A braze-on derailleur bolts to a dedicated tab on the frame. A clamp derailleur wraps around the seat tube, so it needs the clamp size that matches the tube’s diameter.
Top pull or bottom pull?+
It depends on how your frame routes the front derailleur cable: from above along the top tube (top pull) or up from under the bottom bracket (bottom pull). The MTB Dual-pull version works with both.
Does a 1× drivetrain need a front derailleur?+
No. With a single chainring, such as on the Ryden City/Hybrid or MTB 1× crankset, there is no front derailleur or front shifter.
What warranty do Ryden front derailleurs have?+
A 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects, as for all Ryden drivetrain components. Wear from use is not covered.
