The next step up: larger wheels, a roomier fit, and real hand brakes

The Ryden Kids 16 is the next step up from the Ryden Kids 12, providing young riders with larger wheels, a roomier riding position, and greater stability as their cycling abilities develop.

At the heart of the bike is a lightweight 6061 aluminum frame with child-specific geometry. A low standover design makes mounting and dismounting easier, while the appropriately proportioned cockpit keeps the rider in a comfortable and confidence-inspiring position.

The 16-inch wheels provide greater stability and smoother rolling than smaller first-bike wheels, making the Kids 16 suitable for neighbourhood riding, parks, paved cycling paths, and family rides. A simple single-speed drivetrain removes the distraction of shifting gears, with gearing selected to provide manageable pedalling while still allowing enough speed as confidence increases.

Unlike the smaller Kids 12, the Kids 16 emphasises the transition toward conventional bicycle controls with child-sized front and rear hand brakes. Short-reach levers make them easier for smaller hands to operate.

For children still developing their balance, removable training wheels are included. Children coming from balance bikes or already capable of balancing independently can ride without them. Wide 16 x 2.0-inch pneumatic tires add grip and cushioning, while the enclosed chain guard provides additional protection around the drivetrain.

The result is a bicycle designed not simply as a toy, but as a proper lightweight children’s bicycle that helps young riders develop the skills they will use as they progress to larger Ryden bikes.

Does the Ryden Kids 16 include training wheels?+

Yes. Removable, height-adjustable training wheels are included.

Does my child need training wheels?+

Not necessarily. Children who have developed balance-bike skills or can already balance a bicycle can use the Kids 16 without training wheels.

Does it have hand brakes?+

Yes. The Kids 16 features front and rear child-sized hand brakes with short-reach levers.

Why doesn’t the Kids 16 have gears?+

A single-speed drivetrain keeps the bicycle simple, lightweight, and easy to maintain. Young riders can focus on steering, braking, balance, and pedalling before learning gear shifting.

Is the Ryden Kids 16 suitable for riding on grass?+

Yes. The wide pneumatic tires can handle maintained grass, compact dirt, pavement, and similar recreational surfaces. It is not intended for technical mountain-bike trails.

Can the saddle and handlebars be adjusted?+

Yes. Both provide adjustment so the bicycle can accommodate the child as they grow.

Is the chain exposed?+

No. The drivetrain uses a fully enclosed chain guard to reduce accidental contact with the chain and sprockets.

Is the Ryden Kids 16 suitable for BMX tricks?+

No. Although it has 16-inch wheels, it is a recreational children’s bicycle and is not designed for BMX jumps, skateparks, or aggressive tricks.

How much assembly is required?+

The bicycle ships approximately 85 to 90% assembled. Final setup may include installing or aligning the handlebar, front wheel, pedals, saddle, and training wheels. Brake function and fastener torque should be checked before riding.

What safety equipment should children use?+

A properly fitted cycling helmet should always be worn. Depending on the riding environment and skill level, knee and elbow protection can also be appropriate.

What bike comes after the Ryden Kids 16?+

The next step is the Ryden Kids 20, which introduces 20-inch wheels and a 7-speed geared drivetrain for older children.

What warranty is included?+

A 5-year limited warranty on the frame, a 2-year limited warranty on the fork, wheels and brakes, and a 1-year limited warranty on other components, excluding normal wear items.

Why choose the Ryden Kids 16 instead of a cheaper children’s bike?+

The Kids 16 is built around low weight, proper child-specific geometry, real pneumatic tires, appropriately sized controls, aluminum construction, and replaceable bicycle components rather than decorative features. That combination is what makes a bike genuinely easier for a child to ride.

Why choose the Ryden Kids 16?+

The Ryden Kids 16 bridges the gap between a child’s first pedal bike and a more capable junior bicycle. Its lightweight aluminum construction, dual hand brakes, simple drivetrain, removable training wheels, enclosed chain, and child-specific fit make it an excellent platform for developing balance, braking, steering, and independent riding skills.
