Ryden 12-Speed Cassette – Ultra-Precision Wide-Range Performance Cassette
The Ryden 12-Speed Cassette is an ultra-precision, wide-range rear cassette engineered for compatible modern 12-speed drivetrains. Featuring hardened steel sprockets, lightweight aluminum large cogs, a CNC-machined 7075 aluminum LoadSpread spider, Ryden SmoothShift 12 tooth profiling, and a versatile 11–50T range, it delivers a massive 455% gear range for mountain biking, gravel, bikepacking, adventure riding, touring, and performance-oriented 1× drivetrains. The standard 11–50T version is designed around a conventional HG-style freehub, so it does not need a specialized 10T freehub. It is also available in 11–30T Road, 11–34T Endurance, and 11–40T All-Road versions.

Extreme range. Precision shifting. Controlled weight.
The standard 11–50T configuration provides enough range for fast riding, technical climbs, touring, and wide-range 1×12 setups.
Highly coordinated shift ramps, pickup teeth, and release profiles are engineered around the tighter tolerances of a modern 12-speed drivetrain.
Hardened steel is used where wear resistance matters most, while lightweight aluminum is used for selected large sprockets to control overall weight.
A CNC-machined aluminum spider supports the largest sprockets while spreading drivetrain forces across the freehub interface.
The wide-range version is optimized around the simplicity and climbing capability expected from modern single-chainring drivetrains.
The Ryden 12-Speed Cassette is the most technically advanced cassette in Ryden’s conventional drivetrain range. With twelve sprockets packed into a relatively narrow space, manufacturing accuracy becomes critical: sprocket spacing, tooth geometry, lateral runout, shift-ramp timing, carrier stiffness, and chain compatibility all have a significant effect on drivetrain performance.
The standard 11–50T Wide Range version is designed primarily for modern 1×12 drivetrains. Its 11T smallest sprocket provides useful high-speed gearing, while the enormous 50T climbing sprocket gives riders access to very low gear ratios without requiring a front derailleur.
Hardened steel forms the majority of the cassette for long-term wear resistance. Selected largest sprockets use lightweight aluminum, where reducing mass provides the greatest benefit, and several large sprockets are supported by Ryden’s LoadSpread 7075 aluminum spider, improving structural support while reducing unnecessary weight.
The cassette’s defining feature is SmoothShift 12, Ryden’s most advanced coordinated tooth-profiling system. Shifting features are positioned across adjacent sprockets so the chain transitions at deliberate points rather than relying on independent tooth shaping.
The result is a cassette built around four priorities: extreme range, precision shifting, controlled weight, and modern drivetrain compatibility.
Ryden SmoothShift 12
- Synchronized shift pathways
- Shift ramps across neighboring sprockets are positioned to create deliberate chain-transition routes.
- Multi-stage pickup teeth
- Different tooth profiles progressively guide the chain toward a larger sprocket.
- Controlled release teeth
- Dedicated profiles allow the chain to leave a sprocket smoothly during faster shifts.
- Directional ramp timing
- Shift features are placed according to rotational position rather than distributed randomly.
- Precision spacer architecture
- Consistent spacing is critical because twelve sprockets operate with very limited lateral tolerance.
- Low-runout manufacturing
- Tight control of sprocket flatness and carrier alignment helps prevent inconsistent indexing.
Ryden LoadSpread 12 spider
A 7075 aluminum spider supports multiple larger sprockets as a unified assembly. Benefits include:
- •Reduced cassette mass
- •Increased lateral rigidity
- •Improved sprocket alignment
- •Better freehub load distribution
- •Reduced individual spline loading
Hybrid sprocket construction
- Small sprockets
- Hardened steel, because these experience high tooth loading.
- Middle sprockets
- Hardened steel for durability.
- Largest one or two sprockets
- 7075 aluminum to reduce weight, because large sprockets contain substantially more material and are usually used at lower speeds.
This gives a reasonable compromise between cassette life and overall weight.
Why an 11T smallest sprocket?
Many flagship MTB drivetrains use a 10T smallest sprocket, but that usually requires a specialized freehub standard. Starting at 11T lets the standard cassette target the much broader HG-style freehub ecosystem:
- •Easier upgrades for existing bicycles
- •Lower wheel-conversion costs
- •Wider aftermarket compatibility
- •Simpler replacement
- •No proprietary freehub requirement
The tradeoff is slightly less maximum gearing range than a 10–50T or 10–52T cassette. For a 10–52T range, see the Ryden Wide-Range MTB Cassette.

Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): It contains 12 rear sprockets.
What is the default range?+
The flagship version uses 11–50T gearing.
What other ranges are available?+
11–30T Road, 11–34T Endurance, and 11–40T All-Road versions are also available.
Why doesn’t the standard version start with a 10T sprocket?+
Using an 11T smallest sprocket lets the cassette target the broader HG-style freehub ecosystem instead of requiring a more specialized freehub standard.
What is the total range of 11–50T?+
Approximately 455%.
Which chain should I use?+
The recommended pairing is the Ryden 12-Speed Chain.
Is it suitable for 1×12?+
Yes. The 11–50T version is specifically aimed at wide-range 1×12 drivetrains.
Can I use it with 2×12?+
The road and endurance versions suit compatible 2×12 drivetrains. Treat the 11–50T version primarily as a 1×12 cassette.
Will it fit any HG freehub?+
Not automatically. Freehub dimensions and spacer requirements vary, so check with us before ordering if you’re unsure.
Will it fit Micro Spline?+
No. The standard cassette does not fit Micro Spline freehubs.
Will it fit SRAM XD or XDR?+
No, not in its standard HG configuration.
Is it compatible with every Shimano 12-speed system?+
No. Compatibility depends on the specific drivetrain, so check yours with us before ordering.
Is it compatible with SRAM Eagle?+
Only specific systems are compatible, so check your exact Eagle drivetrain with us before ordering.
Does the cassette include a lockring?+
Yes, the standard HG-style configuration includes a matching Ryden lockring.
Can any 12-speed derailleur handle the 50T sprocket?+
No. The derailleur must specifically support a 50T or larger maximum sprocket and the cassette’s overall range.
