Ryden Wide-Range MTB Cassette – 12-Speed 10–52T Mountain Bike Cassette
The Ryden Wide-Range MTB Cassette is a premium 12-speed cassette engineered specifically for modern 1× mountain-bike drivetrains. Its massive 10–52T range delivers 520% total gearing, combining high-speed trail capability with an exceptionally low climbing gear. Featuring hardened-steel sprockets, lightweight aluminum large cogs, a CNC-machined 7075 aluminum carrier, Ryden TrailShift 12 tooth profiling, and MTB-specific mud-clearance architecture, it is designed for trail, XC, enduro, all-mountain, bikepacking, and aggressive adventure riding. Unlike Ryden’s general-purpose 12-Speed Cassette, this model is a dedicated MTB performance product, with separate versions for Micro Spline, XD, and HG freehubs.

1× simplicity, extreme range, trail durability, climbing performance
A 10–52T spread provides both high trail speeds and an exceptionally low climbing ratio from a simple single-chainring drivetrain.
Designed specifically around modern mountain-bike requirements rather than adapting a road cassette to off-road use.
MTB-specific tooth profiling, synchronized shift ramps, and controlled chain-release pathways support shifting across an extreme cassette range.
Hardened steel provides durability through heavily used gears while lightweight aluminum reduces the weight of the largest sprockets.
An open carrier architecture helps reduce trapped mud and debris while improving cleaning access.
Modern mountain bikes have increasingly moved toward 1× drivetrains. Removing the front derailleur simplifies the bike, reduces cockpit complexity, improves chain management, and gives riders one straightforward sequential gear range. But without multiple front chainrings, the rear cassette needs to provide an enormous range of gears.
The Ryden Wide-Range MTB Cassette is designed specifically to solve that problem. Its flagship 10–52T configuration provides 520% range, allowing one chainring to cover everything from high-speed descents to steep technical climbs. The 10T smallest sprocket provides noticeably higher gearing than an 11T cassette, while the enormous 52T sprocket gives riders an extremely low climbing gear.
Because mountain-bike cassettes experience substantial loads, especially when riders climb steep terrain in low gears, the cassette uses a carefully balanced construction. The smaller and middle sprockets use heat-treated hardened steel for durability, and the largest sprockets use lightweight 7075 aluminum, reducing the substantial mass created by their large diameter.
These gears are supported by Ryden’s CNC-machined TrailCore 7075 carrier, designed to maintain alignment while distributing torque through the freehub interface. Shifting is controlled by Ryden TrailShift 12, a tooth-profile system developed specifically for the large jumps and changing loads encountered on mountain-bike trails.
This is not simply a bigger version of the standard Ryden cassette. It is designed around 1× simplicity, extreme range, trail durability, and climbing performance.
Ryden TrailShift 12
Tooth profiling optimized specifically for a large-range cassette:
- Load-aware shift gates
- Shift pathways are positioned to encourage predictable transitions between very different sprocket diameters.
- Multi-stage pickup teeth
- Selected teeth progressively engage the chain as it moves toward larger sprockets.
- Controlled release profiles
- Help guide the chain toward smaller sprockets during rapid acceleration.
- Large-sprocket shift ramps
- The biggest gears receive dedicated profiles, because shifting from 39T to 45T to 52T creates larger physical transitions.
- Chain stabilization profiles
- Tooth shaping works with compatible clutch derailleurs and narrow-wide chainrings to maintain drivetrain control over rough terrain.
Ryden TrailCore 7075 carrier
This structural component supports the larger sprockets. Benefits include:
- •Increased lateral stiffness
- •Reduced overall cassette mass
- •Better torque distribution
- •Improved sprocket alignment
- •Reduced individual freehub spline loading
- •Open mud-shedding construction
Ryden DirtShield treatment
A protective surface treatment intended to improve resistance to:
- •Mud
- •Water
- •Humidity
- •Trail contamination
- •Surface oxidation
- •Road salt
- •Sweat
It is not waterproof or rust-proof: proper cleaning and lubrication remain necessary.
Mud-shedding architecture
The carrier uses large open areas rather than a fully closed structure:
- Less mud retention
- Open spaces allow mud to clear more readily.
- Easier cleaning
- Brushes and water can access more surfaces.
- Lower weight
- Unnecessary carrier material is removed.
- Better visual inspection
- Riders can inspect sprockets and carrier interfaces more easily.

Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): It is designed for 12-speed drivetrains.
What is the gear range?+
The flagship model uses 10–52T.
What is the total gear range?+
Approximately 520%.
Why is it wider than the standard Ryden 12-Speed Cassette?+
It is specifically optimized for 1× mountain biking, where one rear cassette needs to replace the range traditionally provided by several front chainrings.
What chainring should I use?+
A 32T chainring is the recommended all-round starting point. 30T favors climbing, while 34T or 36T favors speed.
Can it fit a standard HG freehub?+
The 10–52T versions need a compact freehub (Micro Spline or XD). For a traditional HG freehub, choose the 11–52T HG version.
Does it fit Micro Spline?+
Only the Micro Spline version.
Does it fit SRAM XD?+
Only the XD version.
What chain should I use?+
Use a compatible 12-speed MTB chain, such as the Ryden 12-Speed Chain.
Can I use it with any 12-speed rear derailleur?+
No. The derailleur must support a 52T largest sprocket and the relevant cassette, freehub, and drivetrain architecture.
Is it suitable for 2×12?+
The 10–52T model should primarily be used with a 1×12 drivetrain.
Is it suitable for e-MTB?+
It can be used on compatible e-MTB drivetrains, but it is not specifically rated for sustained high-torque e-bike use.
Why are some sprockets aluminum?+
Using aluminum on selected large sprockets substantially reduces weight, because those cogs contain much more material.
Does the cassette include a lockring?+
Each freehub version includes the retention hardware it requires.
When should I replace it?+
Replacement is appropriate when significant sprocket wear or structural damage causes skipping or unreliable chain engagement, especially after installing a compatible new chain.
