Ryden 12-Speed Chain – Ultra-Precision Performance Bicycle Chain
The Ryden 12-Speed Chain is a high-precision, narrow-profile chain engineered for compatible modern 12-speed derailleur drivetrains. Featuring hardened steel construction, advanced shift-profile plates, reinforced pins, Ryden LF+ low-friction protection, and an included 12-speed Quick Link, it is designed to deliver precise shifting and efficient power transfer across compatible MTB, gravel, road, hybrid, and performance drivetrains. Because modern 12-speed systems can use proprietary chain and tooth technologies, confirm your exact drivetrain before installation.

Narrower. More precise. Built for modern 12-speed drivetrains.
Ultra-narrow dimensions and tightly controlled manufacturing tolerances are designed for the closely spaced sprockets found in modern 12-speed drivetrains.
Advanced inner- and outer-plate shaping improves engagement with compatible modern cassette and chainring tooth profiles.
The longer standard chain provides greater flexibility for wide-range 1×12 mountain, gravel, and large-frame applications.
An upgraded low-friction and corrosion-resistant surface treatment supports smooth articulation and long-term drivetrain performance.
A dedicated Ryden 12-Speed Quick Link provides a clean and convenient method of completing installation.
Modern 12-speed drivetrains demand considerably more precision from a bicycle chain than traditional lower-speed systems. Twelve cassette sprockets must fit into a relatively compact space. That means the chain needs a narrow external profile while still maintaining sufficient structural strength to repeatedly transmit pedaling forces.
The Ryden 12-Speed Chain is designed around these requirements. Its hardened-steel plates are manufactured with tight dimensional tolerances, while specially shaped inner and outer plates help the chain transition between compatible cassette sprockets.
Ryden Precision Shift Profile III further develops the plate geometry used on Ryden’s 10- and 11-speed chains. At this level, smooth interaction between the chain, cassette, and chainring becomes particularly important.
Heat-treated pins provide strength at each articulation point, while Ryden’s LF+ low-friction protective treatment helps improve corrosion resistance and drivetrain refinement.
The chain is supplied with 126 links rather than 116, making it more suitable for the wide-range 1×12 drivetrains common on modern mountain and gravel bicycles. After sizing, the chain is joined using the included Ryden 12-Speed Quick Link.
The result is Ryden’s most technically advanced conventional multi-speed chain.
Ryden Precision Shift Profile III
Ryden’s most advanced standard plate profiling:
- Sculpted outer plates
- Designed to interact smoothly with compatible cassette shift ramps.
- Optimized inner plates
- Improve engagement with chainrings and cassette sprockets.
- Controlled edge chamfering
- Helps guide lateral chain movement during shifts.
- Tight pin protrusion control
- Keeps external width from interfering with closely spaced sprockets.
- Precision roller geometry
- Improves consistent engagement with compatible drivetrain teeth.
- Controlled plate flex
- Allows sufficient lateral movement for shifting without sacrificing drivetrain stability.
Ryden LF+ Low-Friction Protection
A low-friction and anti-corrosion treatment designed to provide:
- •Reduced surface friction
- •Smoother articulation
- •Improved corrosion resistance
- •Better protection against moisture
- •Reduced surface oxidation
- •Improved drivetrain refinement
- •Easier cleaning
Why 126 links?
Ryden’s other conventional chains use 116 links. The 12-Speed Chain uses 126 because modern mountain drivetrains may use:
- •50T cassettes
- •51T cassettes
- •52T cassettes
- •Large frames
- •Long chainstays
- •Large narrow-wide chainrings
A longer stock chain reduces the risk of finding that a standard 116-link chain is too short. Excess links can simply be removed.

Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): It is designed for compatible 12-speed derailleur drivetrains.
Does it work with 1×12?+
Yes. Modern 1×12 drivetrains are one of its main intended applications.
Does it work with 2×12?+
Yes, where the specific drivetrain is compatible.
How many links does it include?+
126 links.
Why does it have more links than Ryden’s 11-speed chain?+
Wide-range 12-speed mountain-bike drivetrains can require longer chains, so 126 links provide greater sizing flexibility.
Will I use all 126 links?+
Usually not. Excess links should be removed during proper chain sizing.
Is a Quick Link included?+
Yes. A dedicated Ryden 12-Speed Quick Link is included.
Can I use this chain with Shimano 12-speed?+
Selected conventional Shimano 12-speed drivetrains are intended applications, but support varies by groupset. If you’re unsure whether your drivetrain is compatible, contact us before ordering and we’ll check it for you.
Can I use it with SRAM Eagle?+
Selected SRAM Eagle mountain-bike systems are intended applications, but support varies by groupset. If you’re unsure whether your drivetrain is compatible, contact us before ordering and we’ll check it for you.
Does it work with SRAM Flattop?+
No. The Ryden 12-Speed Chain is not designed for SRAM Flattop drivetrains.
Can I put it on an 11-speed bike?+
No. Use the dedicated Ryden 11-Speed Chain.
Can I use it on an e-bike?+
Only where the e-bike and drivetrain manufacturers permit a compatible conventional 12-speed chain. High-torque applications may require the Ryden E-Bike Reinforced Chain.
Is it directional?+
No. The chain is non-directional, although the compatibility requirements of the complete drivetrain still apply.
When should I replace it?+
Monitor chain wear regularly. Around 0.5% measured elongation is a sensible conservative checkpoint for many 12-speed drivetrains, subject to manufacturer guidance.
Does it come pre-lubricated?+
Yes. It ships with factory-applied lubrication and protective treatment.
