Precision for nine. Durability for every ride.
Unlike Ryden’s 6/7/8-speed chain, this model is specifically dimensioned and shaped for the narrower spacing of compatible 9-speed drivetrains.
Shaped inner and outer plates support smooth movement between sprockets during both upshifts and downshifts.
Heat-treated pins and hardened steel plates provide durability for regular recreational, commuting, and performance-oriented riding.
A protective surface treatment improves resistance against moisture, road contamination, and everyday environmental exposure.
Every chain includes a dedicated Ryden 9-Speed Quick Link for straightforward installation and servicing.
As bicycle drivetrains add more rear sprockets, the space between those sprockets decreases. The chain therefore needs to be engineered with dimensions appropriate to that drivetrain. The Ryden 9-Speed Chain is designed specifically for this purpose.
Rather than using the broader architecture of the Ryden 6/7/8-Speed Chain, the 9-Speed Chain uses a narrower profile suited to compatible nine-sprocket cassettes. Precision-formed inner and outer plates help the chain interact smoothly with shifting ramps and drivetrain components, supporting predictable shifting across the cassette.
The chain uses hardened steel plates and heat-treated pins to handle repeated pedaling loads while maintaining dependable articulation between links. A corrosion-resistant surface treatment provides additional protection for riders who regularly encounter humidity, occasional rain, road spray, or other everyday environmental exposure.
Each chain contains 116 links and can be shortened during installation to match the bicycle’s chainring, cassette, derailleur, and chainstay configuration. A dedicated Ryden 9-Speed Quick Link completes the package.
The result is a versatile replacement chain suitable for everything from recreational mountain bikes to everyday commuters.
Shift-optimized plate design
Compared with the 6/7/8-speed chain, the 9-speed chain’s inner and outer plates use carefully shaped profiles to support:
- Faster upshifts
- Plate geometry helps the chain engage the next larger sprocket as the derailleur moves it across the cassette.
- Cleaner downshifts
- Controlled plate shaping helps the chain disengage and settle onto smaller sprockets.
- Reduced shift noise
- Proper engagement can reduce harsh drivetrain interaction.
- Front shifting compatibility
- The chain is suitable for compatible 2×9 and 3×9 drivetrains rather than being limited to 1× systems.
Anti-corrosion treatment
The chain’s external surfaces receive corrosion protection that helps protect against normal exposure to:
- •Humidity
- •Rain
- •Road spray
- •Sweat
- •Dirt
- •Storage moisture
It is not rust-proof: regular cleaning, drying, and lubrication remain necessary.

Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): It is specifically designed for compatible 9-speed derailleur drivetrains.
How many links are included?+
The chain contains 116 links before sizing.
Will it work with a 1×9 drivetrain?+
Yes, provided the drivetrain components are compatible.
Can it work with 2×9?+
Yes.
Can it work with 3×9?+
Yes, provided the complete drivetrain is compatible and the chain is sized correctly.
Can I use it on an 8-speed bike?+
We recommend the dedicated Ryden 6/7/8-Speed Chain instead.
Can I use it on a 10-speed drivetrain?+
No. Use the dedicated Ryden 10-Speed Chain.
Does it work with Shimano?+
It is designed for appropriate Shimano 9-speed drivetrains. If you’re unsure whether your drivetrain is compatible, contact us before ordering and we’ll check it for you.
Is a Quick Link included?+
Yes. A dedicated Ryden 9-Speed Quick Link is included.
Is the chain directional?+
No. The chain is non-directional.
Does the chain arrive lubricated?+
Yes. It ships with factory-applied lubricant and protective treatment.
Can I reuse the Quick Link?+
Only as the reuse guidance supplied with the link allows. It is not designed to be reused indefinitely.
How do I know when the chain needs replacing?+
Measure chain elongation with an appropriate chain-wear tool rather than relying only on mileage.
Can I use it on an e-bike?+
Only where the bicycle/drivetrain manufacturer permits a conventional 9-speed chain for that system. For higher-torque e-bikes, use the Ryden E-Bike Reinforced Chain.
What warranty does it have?+
A 1-year limited manufacturing defect warranty. Normal wear, incorrect installation, poor maintenance, corrosion caused by neglect, crashes, modifications, and incompatible drivetrain use are not covered.
