More range, more precision, affordable 10-speed performance
A tighter-tolerance parallelogram linkage tracks across ten closely spaced sprockets and places the guide pulley more precisely.
The long-cage version goes beyond conventional 10-speed road gearing and supports compatible wide-range MTB and adventure cassettes up to 42T.
Three cage lengths let the derailleur serve modern 1× setups as well as traditional multi-chainring drivetrains, within each cage’s total capacity.
Replaceable low-friction guide and tension pulleys improve chain control and make servicing straightforward.
An aluminum main body and outer cage keep the long-cage version to approximately 245–275 g, lighter than the Ryden 7/8- and 9-speed derailleurs, while maintaining adequate stiffness.
Moving from nine to ten rear sprockets increases both drivetrain capability and the precision required from the rear derailleur.
The cassette sprockets sit closer together, so small errors in cable tension, hanger alignment, pivot play, or pulley position have a greater effect on shifting quality. The Ryden 10-Speed Rear Derailleur is designed around these tighter tolerances.
Its ShiftPath 10 parallelogram geometry controls the position of the upper guide pulley as the derailleur moves laterally across the cassette. Compared with the Ryden 9-Speed Rear Derailleur, it has tighter pivot tolerances, a stiffer linkage, lower-friction pulley hardware, reduced cage flex, and more precise B-gap adjustment.
The default long-cage version expands rear-sprocket capability to 42T, opening the door to affordable wide-range 1×10 MTB drivetrains without moving up to more expensive 11- or 12-speed components.
At the same time, the short- and medium-cage versions cover close-ratio road and general-purpose hybrid drivetrains.
The result is more range, more precision, and affordable performance.
Ryden ShiftPath 10
ShiftPath 10 is the derailleur’s parallelogram geometry. It improves on the ShiftPath 9 geometry of the Ryden 9-Speed Rear Derailleur in several ways:
- Tighter pivot control
- Reduced unwanted lateral movement improves indexing accuracy.
- Progressive pulley path
- The guide pulley follows cassette growth as it moves toward larger sprockets.
- Stiffer outer link
- Helps maintain pulley alignment under shifting load.
- Refined return spring
- Provides consistent shift response toward smaller sprockets.
- Extended wide-range geometry
- The long-cage version accommodates larger 40–42T rear sprockets.
Ryden GlideWheel 10 pulleys
The pulley system is Ryden GlideWheel 10:
- •12T guide pulley
- •12T tension pulley
- •Reinforced composite construction
- •Low-friction bushings
- •Replaceable hardware
The 12T pulleys are slightly larger than the 11T pulleys on the Ryden 7/8- and 9-speed derailleurs. That modestly reduces chain articulation while keeping the derailleur compact.
Pulley cage and body construction
- Main body
- Forged aluminum.
- Outer link
- Aluminum.
- Outer cage plate
- Forged/machined aluminum.
- Inner cage plate
- High-strength aluminum or thin reinforced steel, depending on cage length.
- Pivot pins
- Hardened stainless steel.
The long cage is built for durability in MTB use rather than for the lowest possible weight.
Spring system
- Main parallelogram return spring
- Controls lateral shift return.
- Cage tension spring
- Maintains chain tension. The long-cage version has somewhat stronger cage tension than the city-focused Ryden 7/8-Speed Rear Derailleur.
Integrated barrel adjuster
The integrated barrel adjuster lets you fine-tune indexing precisely. That matters because 10-speed cog spacing is tighter than 8- or 9-speed, so small cable changes have a more noticeable effect on shifting.
Non-clutch design
The derailleur has no clutch, which suits hybrid, trekking, touring, and road riding. A clutch rear derailleur increases resistance to uncontrolled cage movement, which gives:
- •Reduced chain slap
- •Better chain retention
- •Quieter rough-terrain riding
A clutch is most useful for 1× MTB, trail, and gravel/adventure riding, but it adds weight, shifting resistance, cost, and servicing complexity. Ryden doesn’t make a 10-speed clutch derailleur: Ryden’s clutch derailleurs are the MTB long cage TrailLock clutch version of the Ryden 11-Speed Rear Derailleur and the Ryden 12-Speed MTB Rear Derailleur, which has TrailLock II as standard and is for 1×12 MTB drivetrains. Each needs a shifter, cassette, and chain of its own speed; confirm yours with us before ordering.
Finishes
Choose Stealth Black (default), Black/Silver, or Titanium Grey. The RYDEN 10 graphics are restrained, so the derailleur suits Ryden bikes and replacement or custom builds alike.
Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): Compatible 10-speed mechanical drivetrains on MTB, hybrid, trekking, touring, commuter, fitness, and selected road bikes.
What is the default version?+
The long-cage version, which supports rear sprockets up to 42T.
Which Ryden cassette works with it?+
The Ryden 10-Speed Cassette, especially the 11–36T version, which needs the medium or long cage.
Does Ryden make a 42T 10-speed cassette?+
No. Ryden’s 10-speed cassettes go up to 36T. For 42T, use the long cage with a compatible 11–42T 10-speed cassette.
Which chain should I use?+
The Ryden 10-Speed Chain.
Can I use it on a 1×10 bike?+
Yes. 1×10 is one of its strongest applications. For an 11–42T cassette, choose the long cage.
Can it work with 2×10?+
Yes, provided the cage you choose takes your largest rear cog and has enough total capacity for your chainrings and cassette. For example, 36/26T with 11–36T needs 35T of capacity and a cage that takes a 36T cog, so use the medium or long cage.
Can it work with 3×10?+
Some combinations work, but wide front and rear ranges can exceed total capacity, so calculate yours first. For example, 44/32/22T with 11–36T needs 47T, more than the long cage’s approximately 45T.
What is the maximum rear sprocket?+
42T on the long cage. The medium cage takes up to 36T and the short cage up to 30T.
Does it have a clutch?+
No. Ryden’s clutch derailleurs are the MTB long cage TrailLock clutch version of the Ryden 11-Speed Rear Derailleur, for 11-speed MTB drivetrains, and the Ryden 12-Speed MTB Rear Derailleur with TrailLock II, for 1×12 MTB drivetrains. Each needs a shifter, cassette, and chain of its own speed, so confirm your drivetrain with us first.
What is the approximate long-cage capacity?+
Approximately 45T.
Can I use it with a 9-speed cassette?+
No. Use the Ryden 9-Speed Rear Derailleur.
Can I use it with an 11-speed cassette?+
No. Use the Ryden 11-Speed Rear Derailleur.
Does it work with every 10-speed road and MTB shifter?+
No. Road and MTB 10-speed shifters can pull different amounts of cable, and compatibility depends on actual cable pull, not speed count. Confirm your shifter with us before ordering.
Which cage should I choose?+
The short cage for close-ratio road, fitness, and 1× setups up to 30T that need no more than approximately 32T of total capacity, such as 53/39T with 11–28T; the medium cage for many hybrid and 2× setups up to 36T, including 50/34T and 52/36T road doubles; and the long cage for wide-range MTB, touring, or cassettes up to 42T. Check your total capacity too.
