Ryden 7-Speed Shifter Set – Indexed Flat-Bar Mechanical Shift Controls
The Ryden 7-Speed Shifter Set is a complete indexed mechanical shifting system for compatible flat-bar 7-speed bicycles. The right-hand shifter provides seven precise rear gear positions, and a 2× or 3× left-hand shifter pairs with it for compatible front drivetrains. For 1×7 bikes, the right shifter is also sold on its own. Featuring Ryden ClickPath 7 indexing, ergonomic two-lever operation, easy-to-read Ryden GearView indicators, independent aluminum handlebar clamps, and a stainless inner shift cable with each shifter, the set delivers simple, predictable shifting for everyday riding. It is designed as a direct partner for the Ryden 7/8-Speed Rear Derailleur, Ryden 7-Speed Freewheel, and Ryden 6/7/8-Speed Chain.

Simple, predictable 7-speed shifting for everyday flat-bar bikes
A matched left-and-right shifter set simplifies choosing the controls for 2×7 and 3×7 bicycles.
Seven clearly defined rear positions provide predictable mechanical indexing.
Both shifters clearly display the selected gear position, which makes them especially useful for beginners and recreational riders.
Separate shifter clamps let the set sit beside many mechanical and hydraulic brake levers, with the brake and shift controls set up independently.
Each shifter comes with a corrosion-resistant stainless inner cable for easier installation and replacement.
The Ryden 7-Speed Shifter Set is a complete flat-bar shifting package for everyday 7-speed bicycles. Rather than choosing front and rear controls separately, you get matched left and right shifters in one set.
The right-hand shifter controls the rear derailleur across seven sprocket positions. On the standard 3×7 version, the left shifter controls the three front chainrings, giving a traditional drivetrain with 3 front positions × 7 rear positions = 21 selectable gear combinations.
That doesn’t mean 21 completely unique gear ratios: many combinations overlap, and some extreme cross-chain combinations are best avoided.
The 3×7 pair is the standard version, because triple cranksets remain common on traditional 7-speed bicycles. There’s also a 2×7 pair for double cranksets, a 3×7 pair with a housing kit, and the 7-speed right shifter on its own for 1×7 bikes.
The set is made for city, hybrid, recreational MTB, trekking, utility, and youth bikes where riders value affordability, simple operation, broad gearing, easy replacement, and mechanical serviceability.
Inside, a hardened steel ratchet lasts longer than low-grade all-plastic mechanisms, and the broad, textured thumb lever and independent aluminum split clamps make the set comfortable to use and easy to set up.
Ryden ClickPath 7
ClickPath 7 is the mechanical indexing inside the set. It combines:
- Positive rear detents
- Each right-shifter click corresponds to one rear sprocket position.
- Defined front positions
- The 3× left shifter gives three distinct chainring positions, and the 2× left shifter gives two.
- Consistent cable pull
- Internal cam geometry controls how much cable each click moves.
- Low-friction ratchet
- Reduces thumb effort.
- Durable internal components
- A hardened steel ratchet lasts longer than low-grade all-plastic mechanisms.
Right 7-speed shifter
The right shifter has two levers:
- Larger thumb lever
- Moves the derailleur toward larger rear sprockets, for easier gears. Use it for climbing, accelerating from a stop, and easier pedaling. One full stroke can move several easier gears at once.
- Release lever
- Moves the derailleur toward smaller rear sprockets, one gear per click, for harder gears. Use it to increase speed and on descents.
The lever layout matches the rest of the Ryden Trigger Shifters range.
Left 3× and 2× shifters
The left shifter controls the front derailleur. The 3× left shifter, in the standard 3×7 pair, has three indexed positions:
- 1: Small chainring
- Lowest gearing, for climbing.
- 2: Middle chainring
- General riding.
- 3: Large chainring
- Higher-speed riding.
The 3× left shifter pairs naturally with the Ryden Triple Front Derailleur in its 7/8-speed version. The 2× left shifter, in the 2×7 pair, has two indexed positions, low and high, for a compatible double front derailleur.
Lever shape
The levers are sized for adult and teen riders and work with light gloves. The main thumb lever has a broad, textured contact surface, rounded edges, and a short thumb stroke. On smaller children’s bikes, check that the rider can reach and push the levers comfortably.
Independent split clamps
Each shifter has its own aluminum split clamp for the standard 22.2 mm flat-bar control area, separate from the brake lever. That gives you:
- •Compatibility with many brake levers
- •Easy installation, without removing your grips
- •Easy replacement of a single shifter
- •Independent rotational adjustment of each control
Construction
- Body
- Glass-fiber reinforced composite.
- Internal mechanism
- Hardened steel ratchet, stainless springs, and low-friction bushings.
- Levers
- Reinforced composite, with a steel pivot.
- Clamps
- Aluminum split clamps.
Ryden MicroIndex barrel adjuster
The right shifter has an integrated Ryden MicroIndex barrel adjuster, so you can make small indexing corrections without tools. Seven-speed indexing is less sensitive to small cable changes than higher-speed indexing, so a simple adjuster is all it needs.
Shift cables and housing
Each shifter comes with a stainless inner shift cable: the 2×7 and 3×7 pairs include a rear cable and a front cable, and the 1×7 right shifter includes one rear cable.
Housing isn’t included, except in the 3×7 pair + housing kit, which adds compression-resistant shift housing, ferrules, and end caps to the two inner cables. That version is especially useful for full bicycle restorations.
The same shifters as Ryden Trigger Shifters
The shifters in this set are Ryden trigger shifters: the 1×7 right-only version is the same 7-speed right shifter sold on the Ryden Trigger Shifters page. For other speeds, see the Ryden Trigger Shifters, Ryden 8/9-Speed Shifter Set, and Ryden 10/11-Speed Shifter Set.
Finish
Stealth Black.
Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): A matched set of mechanical flat-bar trigger shifters: a 7-speed right shifter with a 2× or 3× left front shifter. For 1×7 bikes, the right shifter is also available on its own.
What is the standard configuration?+
The 3×7 pair.
What is the price?+
$44.99 USD for the standard 3×7 pair. The 2×7 pair is $39.99, the 1×7 right shifter $24.99, and the 3×7 pair + housing kit $54.99.
Which rear derailleur should I use?+
The Ryden 7/8-Speed Rear Derailleur, with the cage your freewheel and gearing need.
Which freewheel should I use?+
The Ryden 7-Speed Freewheel, in 14–28T or 14–34T. The 14–34T version needs the long cage of the Ryden 7/8-Speed Rear Derailleur.
Which chain should I use?+
The Ryden 6/7/8-Speed Chain.
Which front derailleur works with the 3×7 set?+
The Ryden Triple Front Derailleur, in its 7/8-speed version, is the natural pairing.
Can I buy a 2×7 version?+
Yes. The 2×7 pair is for compatible double cranksets. Ryden doesn’t make a double front derailleur for 7-speed, so use a compatible double front derailleur and contact us to check it.
Can I use only the right shifter for a 1×7 bicycle?+
Yes. Choose the 1×7 right-only version: it’s the same 7-speed right shifter sold on the Ryden Trigger Shifters page.
Does it include shift cables?+
Yes. Each shifter comes with a stainless inner cable, so the 2×7 and 3×7 pairs include front and rear cables, and the 1×7 right shifter includes one.
Does it include housing?+
Only the 3×7 pair + housing kit, which adds compression-resistant shift housing, ferrules, and end caps. The other versions include inner cables only.
Does it show the selected gear?+
Yes. Both shifters have Ryden GearView indicators: the right shows 1 to 7, the 3× left shows 1, 2, and 3, and the 2× left shows Low and High.
Can it operate an 8-speed cassette?+
No. The indexing is 7-speed only. The Ryden 7/8-Speed Rear Derailleur works with both 7- and 8-speed, but an 8-speed drivetrain needs an 8-speed shifter, such as an 8-speed version of the Ryden 8/9-Speed Shifter Set.
Will it work with every third-party 7-speed derailleur?+
Not necessarily. The indexed cable pull has to match the derailleur, and a 7-speed label alone doesn’t guarantee that. Contact us to check yours before ordering.
What handlebar size does it fit?+
Standard 22.2 mm flat-bar control areas. It isn’t intended for drop bars.
