Ryden Trigger Shifters – Precision Flat-Bar Mechanical Gear Controls
The Ryden Trigger Shifters are ergonomic mechanical gear controls designed for compatible flat-bar drivetrains from 7 through 12 speeds. Featuring Ryden ClickPath Indexing, dual-lever thumb-and-finger operation, a clear Ryden GearView gear indicator on the 7-, 8- and 9-speed right shifters and the 2× and 3× left shifters, an adjustable clamp position, and low-friction cable routing, they provide quick, positive shifts for city, hybrid, trekking, MTB, touring, and youth bicycles. Each shifter is engineered around a specific Ryden derailleur actuation ratio, so pair it only with a rear or front derailleur it’s made to match.
- ✓ Ryden ClickPath indexing for positive, defined shifts
- ✓ Right: 7- to 10-speed, 11-speed MTB or 12-speed MTB
- ✓ Left: 2× or 3× versions for front derailleurs

Speed-matched indexing, positive clicks, and easy flat-bar control
Distinct mechanical detents give you positive feedback for each gear change.
Separate shift levers handle upshifts and downshifts without rotating the grip or letting go of the handlebar.
Dedicated 7-, 8-, 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-speed right shifters each pull the amount of cable their derailleur needs, instead of one cable-pull ratio trying to fit every drivetrain.
An adjustable clamp position and carefully shaped paddles keep the controls within easy thumb and index-finger reach.
Replaceable cables, accessible clamp hardware, and conventional mechanical indexing keep maintenance simple.
Trigger shifters are one of the most intuitive mechanical shifting systems for flat-bar bicycles. Rather than twisting the grip, you operate separate paddles with your thumb or index finger. One lever pulls additional shift cable, the other releases it, and that cable movement controls the derailleur.
On the rear derailleur, each indexed click corresponds to one cassette position. On the front, the left shifter moves the chain between two chainrings on a 2× drivetrain or three chainrings on a 3× drivetrain. A 1× drivetrain needs only the right shifter.
The Ryden Trigger Shifters are engineered as part of the Ryden drivetrain range rather than as generic standalone controls. The cable pulled per click has to match the movement ratio of the derailleur it operates, so each right shifter is speed-specific, with its own indexing drum or cam matched to its derailleur.
For the same reason, the same number of gears doesn’t automatically make a shifter and a derailleur compatible. The Setups & pairings and Compatibility tabs list the Ryden derailleurs each version is made for. Contact us before ordering if yours isn’t listed, and to confirm any 10-, 11- or 12-speed or Touring derailleur.
The 9-speed right shifter is the default version, made to pair with the Ryden 9-Speed Rear Derailleur, Ryden 9-Speed Cassette, and Ryden 9-Speed Chain. Every version comes in Stealth Black with a stainless inner shift cable.
Ryden ClickPath indexing
ClickPath is the mechanical indexing system inside every Ryden Trigger Shifter. It combines:
- Positive detent mechanism
- Each shift position is mechanically defined.
- Controlled cable release
- Prevents vague or accidental gear changes.
- Low-friction internal cam
- Reduces lever effort.
- Consistent cable pull
- Each click moves the correct amount of shift cable for the intended derailleur.
- Return-spring assistance
- Helps the shift lever reset after each shift.
Each right shifter (7-speed, 8-speed, 9-speed, 10-speed, 11-speed MTB, and 12-speed MTB) has its own indexing drum or cam, matched to the derailleur it’s made for: ClickPath 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12, by speed.
ClickPath 12 Precision Indexing
Tolerances matter more as speeds go up, so the 12-speed MTB shifter uses ClickPath 12 Precision Indexing, the most precise version of the ClickPath mechanism, with:
- •Tighter internal tolerances
- •A more defined click feel
- •A lower-friction cam
- •A sealed cable exit
- •Reinforced lever pivots
Two levers on the right shifter
- Larger lower lever
- Operated by your thumb. It pulls cable to shift toward larger rear sprockets, into easier gears, and one full stroke can move several easier gears at once: especially useful when you’re approaching a steep climb.
- Smaller upper lever
- Within easy reach of your thumb or index finger. It releases cable to shift toward smaller sprockets, one gear per click, which keeps shifting predictable and reduces accidental overshifting.
Right and left shifters
- Right shifter
- Controls the rear derailleur. Available in 7-speed, 8-speed, 9-speed, 10-speed, 11-speed MTB, and 12-speed MTB versions.
- 2× left shifter
- Controls a double front derailleur, with Low and High positions. For MTB 2×, city and hybrid 2×, and selected trekking doubles.
- 3× left shifter
- Controls a triple front derailleur, with clear indexing through all three chainrings (positions 1, 2 and 3). For touring triples, traditional MTB triples, and hybrid triples.
The left shifters are indexed. A 1× drivetrain doesn’t need a left shifter.
Ryden GearView indicator
The 7-, 8- and 9-speed right shifters and the 2× and 3× left shifters have a Ryden GearView window that shows your selected gear, which is most useful on city, hybrid, and youth bikes. The 11- and 12-speed MTB shifters have no indicator, which keeps their bodies compact. See Setups & pairings for how the gears are numbered.
Split clamp
Each shifter mounts with its own aluminum split clamp on the 22.2 mm control area of flat, riser, and MTB-style handlebars. Because the clamp opens rather than sliding on as a closed ring, you can fit the shifter without removing:
- •Grips
- •Brake levers
- •Bar-end accessories
That makes installation easy and improves serviceability. The clamp rotates on the bar, so you can set the lever angle that suits your hands, and it’s independent of the brake lever rather than a combined brake-and-shifter mount, so the shifter mounts separately from mechanical or hydraulic brake levers.
Construction
- Body
- Glass-fiber reinforced composite: light, impact resistant, and corrosion resistant.
- Internal mechanism
- Hardened steel ratchet, stainless springs, and low-friction bushings.
- Levers – 7-, 8- and 9-speed
- Reinforced composite main lever with a steel pivot.
- Levers – 10-speed
- Composite/aluminum hybrid.
- Levers – 11- and 12-speed MTB

Cable and service access
Every shifter comes with one polished stainless inner shift cable. Shift housing isn’t included with the single shifters; see Installation & care for the housing to use.
A small service cover exposes the cable head, so you can replace the cable without fully taking the shifter apart. That’s especially handy on tour, in a bike shop, or for home mechanics.
Ryden MicroIndex barrel adjuster
The 7- to 11-speed right shifters have an integrated Ryden MicroIndex barrel adjuster for fine cable-tension corrections. On the 12-speed MTB shifter, fine cable adjustment is made at the Ryden 12-Speed MTB Rear Derailleur’s MicroIndex 12 barrel adjuster.
Weather resistance
The shifter body is built to resist rain, mud, road spray, sweat, and dust. The 10-, 11- and 12-speed shifters add Ryden ControlSeal protection:
- •A sealed cable exit
- •A protected ratchet mechanism
- •Corrosion-resistant springs
- •Drainage paths
Every version is weather resistant, not waterproof, including those with ControlSeal. Don’t pressure-wash directly into the mechanism.
Finish
Every version comes in Stealth Black.
Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): Mechanical gear shifting on flat-bar bicycles: city, hybrid, trekking, MTB, touring, and youth bikes with compatible drivetrains.
What rear speeds are available?+
7-, 8-, 9-, 10-, 11-speed MTB, and 12-speed MTB right-hand versions.
What is the standard version?+
The 9-speed right trigger shifter, at $29.99, made to pair with the Ryden 9-Speed Rear Derailleur, Ryden 9-Speed Cassette, and Ryden 9-Speed Chain.
Are left-hand shifters available?+
Yes: 2× and 3× left shifters for front derailleurs.
Do I need a left shifter on a 1× drivetrain?+
No. A 1× drivetrain needs only the right shifter, which leaves the left side of the bar free for a dropper remote, e-bike controls, a bell, or a suspension lockout.
Does the shifter come with a cable?+
Yes. Every shifter comes with one polished stainless inner shift cable.
Is housing included?+
No, not with the single shifters. The 3×7, 3×9, and 2×11 pairs in the Ryden shifter sets come in “+ housing kit” versions with compression-resistant housing, ferrules, and end caps; otherwise, use good compression-resistant shift housing.
Will an 11-speed trigger shifter work with any 11-speed derailleur?+
No. Cable pull and derailleur actuation must match. The 11-speed MTB shifter is for MTB 11-speed rear derailleurs, such as the MTB versions of the Ryden 11-Speed Rear Derailleur, not its road versions. Confirm your derailleur with us before ordering.
Will the 12-speed version work with the Ryden 12-Speed MTB Rear Derailleur?+
Yes. That’s its primary pairing, in 1×12 drivetrains, with fine cable adjustment at the derailleur’s MicroIndex 12 barrel adjuster.
Can the 12-speed version work with a road derailleur?+
No. Road and MTB derailleurs can need different cable pull: the 12-speed MTB shifter is for the Ryden 12-Speed MTB Rear Derailleur and confirmed compatible 12-speed MTB systems, not road 12-speed derailleurs.
Does it show the selected gear?+
Yes, on the 7-, 8- and 9-speed right shifters and the 2× and 3× left shifters, which have a Ryden GearView indicator. The 11- and 12-speed MTB shifters have no indicator, which keeps them compact.
Can I shift more than one gear at once?+
Yes, toward easier gears: one full stroke of the larger thumb lever can move several easier gears at once. The release lever moves one gear per click.
What handlebars do they fit?+
Flat, riser, and MTB-style bars with a standard 22.2 mm control area.
Can I use them with hydraulic brakes?+
Yes. Each shifter has its own independent clamp, so it mounts separately from mechanical or hydraulic brake levers.
Are they compatible with drop bars?+
No. They’re flat-bar shifters, not conventional drop-bar shifters. For drop bars, see the Ryden Road Integrated Shifters, mechanical dual-control levers for 10- and 11-speed road drivetrains.
