The Ryden Compact Road Crankset is a lightweight 2× crankset built specifically around versatile 50/34T compact road gearing. Featuring forged hollow aluminum crank arms, an integrated 24 mm steel spindle, matched Ryden CompactShift chainrings, and multiple crank-length options, it is designed for endurance road, recreational cycling, fitness riding, hilly routes, long-distance events, and everyday road use. Unlike the Ryden Road Double Crankset, which offers several road and race ratios, it is purpose-built around one highly versatile 50/34T configuration, making it simpler, more affordable, and easier to choose.

Color: Stealth Black
Crank length: 172.5 mm

172.5 mm is the standard road option. Choose by bike fit, leg length and riding style rather than height alone.

Chain speed: 10-speed

12-speed: selected road systems only, because modern chains can use proprietary profiles. Confirm yours with us before ordering.

Simple road gearing, easier climbing, dependable shifting

Dedicated 50/34T Compact Gearing

A versatile compact ratio gives riders a useful high gear for road speed while retaining a significantly easier 34T inner chainring for climbing.

Hollow-Forged Aluminum Arms

Hollow arm construction reduces weight while maintaining the structural stiffness required for everyday and performance road riding.

Ryden CompactShift 2X

Matched inner and outer chainrings use coordinated shift ramps, pickup pins, and transition teeth to improve front shifting.

Integrated 24 mm Spindle

A stiff, serviceable spindle architecture allows compatibility with multiple road bottom-bracket standards using the correct 24 mm bottom bracket.

Endurance-Focused Design

The crankset prioritizes practical gearing, smooth shifting, comfort-oriented fit choices, and broad everyday usability rather than aggressive race gearing.

Not every road cyclist needs race gearing. For many riders, especially those riding long distances, climbing hills, training recreationally, or commuting on a road bike, a 50/34T compact crankset offers a much more practical balance.

The Ryden Compact Road Crankset is built around that philosophy. Rather than offering several chainring combinations, it focuses entirely on the classic compact-road setup: a 50T outer ring and a 34T inner ring.

The 50T chainring provides plenty of gearing for fast road riding, group rides, descents, and fitness cycling. When the road turns uphill, the 34T inner ring reduces the front gear ratio substantially, helping riders keep a more comfortable cadence without extremely large rear sprockets.

The crank arms use a hollow-forged aluminum structure, concentrating material around high-load zones while reducing unnecessary internal mass. An integrated 24 mm heat-treated steel spindle provides a stiff connection through the bottom bracket and fits threaded and press-fit road frames with the right bottom bracket.

The included Ryden CompactShift 2X chainrings are engineered as a matched pair: their pickup pins, ramps, and transition teeth are positioned so the chain moves between the 34T and 50T rings in a controlled manner.

It’s designed for riders who want simple road gearing, easier climbing, dependable shifting, reasonable weight, and better value.

Ryden CompactShift 2X

Because there is only one chainring combination, the shift system is optimized specifically around the 16-tooth jump.

50/34-specific ramp timing
Shift ramps are timed for the 16T jump between the rings.
Outer-ring pickup pins
Steel pins help lift the chain during shifts from 34T to 50T.
Transition tooth profiles
Selected teeth guide the chain as it settles onto the larger ring.
Controlled downshift release
Inner-facing profiles help the chain move cleanly back to the 34T ring.
Matched ring alignment
The two rings are designed to work together rather than as generic independent replacements.

Ryden HollowForm Compact arms

A premium structural design without race-component pricing:

  • •Lower mass
  • •High bending stiffness
  • •Strong pedaling feel
  • •Reduced unnecessary material
  • •Modern appearance

Integrated 24 mm spindle

Rather than a separate crankset for every frame standard, one crankset fits multiple frames through the bottom bracket. The spindle gives:

  • •Good stiffness
  • •Broad bottom-bracket support
  • •Straightforward servicing
  • •Wide bearing placement

A (Ryden team): It uses a fixed 50/34T compact double configuration.

Asked by Ryden team, 0 helpful votes
Why is 50/34T called compact?+

It uses smaller chainrings than traditional 53/39T race gearing, making climbing easier while retaining useful road speed.

Is it easier to climb with than a 52/36T crankset?+

Yes, assuming the same rear cassette.

What is the standard crank length?+

172.5 mm.

What other lengths are available?+

160, 165, 170, and 175 mm.

Is the bottom bracket included?+

No. It is sold separately because frame standards vary.

What spindle does it use?+

A 24 mm integrated steel spindle.

Can I use it with a BSA threaded road frame?+

Yes, with a 24 mm road bottom bracket for BSA-threaded frames, sold separately.

Can I use it with a BB86 frame?+

Yes, with a BB86-compatible 24 mm bottom bracket, sold separately.

Does it work with 10-speed drivetrains?+

Yes, through the 10-speed version.

Is it suitable for 11-speed?+

Yes, through the 11-speed version.

Does it work with all 12-speed systems?+

No. Only selected 12-speed road systems are compatible, so confirm yours with us before ordering.

Can I replace the chainrings?+

Yes. Both rings can be replaced individually.

Are pedals included?+

No.

Who should choose this instead of the Ryden Road Double Crankset?+

Choose the Compact Road Crankset if you specifically want 50/34T gearing, endurance-oriented performance, and a lower price. Choose the Road Double Crankset if you want 52/36T or 53/39T gearing.
