One bike. One gear. A direct connection between rider and road.

The Ryden Fixie Pro takes cycling back to its essentials. Designed for urban riders who value simplicity but do not want an entry-level bicycle, it combines a minimalist drivetrain with a lightweight performance chassis.

The triple-butted 6061 aluminum frame uses relatively aggressive urban geometry, creating a responsive bicycle suited to quick acceleration, commuting, fitness riding and fast movement through the city. A full carbon fork reduces weight at the front while helping filter high-frequency road vibration. The position is more performance-oriented than Ryden’s hybrid and comfort bikes, but it deliberately avoids extreme velodrome geometry: this is an urban fixed-gear bicycle, not a pure track machine.

At the centre of the concept is the flip-flop rear hub. One side carries a fixed cog: with the wheel installed on that side, the rear wheel and drivetrain stay mechanically connected, so whenever the bike is moving the pedals keep rotating and you cannot coast. Flip the rear wheel around and the other side provides a freewheel, turning the same bicycle into a conventional single-speed you can coast on. That lets riders explore fixed-gear cycling without committing to it permanently.

The drivetrain uses a 48T chainring and 17T cog for approximately a 2.82:1 ratio. On 700C wheels that balances acceleration and cruising speed for relatively flat urban environments. Optional rear cogs and freewheels let you tune it: 48x16 is faster and harder, 48x17 is the standard balanced setup, 48x18 is easier for the city, and 48x19 suits hillier terrain or newer riders.

Narrow 700 x 28C tires keep rolling resistance low while providing more everyday comfort and grip than extremely narrow track rubber. There are no derailleurs, shift cables, cassette or multiple chainrings, which keeps the bike mechanically simple, visually clean and straightforward to maintain.

On braking: the Fixie Pro ships with both front and rear brakes installed regardless of its fixed-gear capability. Fixed-gear riders sometimes use drivetrain resistance to help control speed, but that is not a substitute for conventional braking, and brake requirements vary by jurisdiction, so follow your local bicycle laws. Graphics are kept deliberately minimal, and the platform accepts alternative bars, saddles, wheels, cogs, foot straps and 25C to 32C tires for riders who want to personalise it.

Q: What is a fixed-gear bicycle?

A (Ryden team): A fixed-gear bicycle directly connects the rear wheel to the drivetrain. When the rear wheel rotates, the crank and pedals rotate as well.

Can I coast on the Ryden Fixie Pro?+

Not when using the fixed cog. Flipping the rear wheel to the freewheel side converts the bicycle to single-speed mode and allows normal coasting.

What is a flip-flop hub?+

A flip-flop hub provides drivetrain mounting interfaces on both sides of the rear hub. The wheel can be reversed to switch between fixed and freewheel configurations.

Does the Fixie Pro have brakes?+

Yes. Front and rear dual-pivot caliper brakes are included as standard equipment. Drivetrain resistance in fixed mode is not a substitute for brakes, and brake requirements vary by jurisdiction.

Does it have gears?+

It has one gear ratio at a time. There are no derailleurs or gear shifters.

What gearing does it use?+

The standard configuration is 48T front and 17T rear, giving a 2.82:1 ratio.

Is the Fixie Pro suitable for beginners?+

The freewheel single-speed configuration suits riders comfortable on conventional bicycles. Fixed-gear riding requires additional technique and should be learned progressively in a safe environment.

Is fixed gear difficult on hills?+

It can be. Because there is only one ratio, the rider cannot shift into an easier climbing gear. Riders in very hilly locations may prefer a geared bicycle.

Why are the cranks only 165 mm?+

Shorter cranks are commonly used on fixed-gear bicycles because they increase pedal clearance when cornering while the pedals continue rotating.

Can I install wider tires?+

Frame and fork clearance supports tires up to approximately 700 x 32C, subject to the specific tire and rim combination.

Can I change the handlebar?+

Yes. The Fixie Pro supports compatible drop, flat, riser or bullhorn handlebars, provided the controls and component dimensions are compatible.

Can I install foot straps?+

Yes. Compatible straps or other appropriate foot-retention systems can be fitted. Learn how to enter and exit any retention system safely before riding in traffic.

Is it suitable for commuting?+

Yes. Its low maintenance, low weight, mechanical simplicity and urban geometry make commuting one of its primary applications.

How much maintenance does a fixie require?+

Generally less drivetrain maintenance than a geared bicycle because there are fewer components. Chain tension, chain lubrication, brakes, tires, bearings and fasteners still require regular inspection.

What warranty is included?+

A 5-year limited frame warranty, a 2-year limited warranty on the carbon fork, wheels and brakes, and a 1-year limited warranty on other components.
