One speed. Clean design. Simple ownership.

The Ryden Minimal is built around subtraction. No suspension, no front derailleur, no rear derailleur, no gear shifters, no complicated drivetrain, no excessive graphics. What remains is the essential bicycle.

A lightweight 6061 aluminum frame forms the foundation, paired with a durable chromoly fork and a simple single-speed drivetrain. Unlike Ryden’s enthusiast fixed-gear models, Minimal is a freewheel single-speed: pedal when you want to accelerate, and coast normally when you do not.

The 44T chainring and 18T rear freewheel produce a 2.44:1 ratio, roughly 66 gear inches. That is intentionally easier than the Single X, Urban Fix and Fixie Pro, which suits stop-and-go urban environments where easy acceleration matters more than a very high top gear.

A flat handlebar provides intuitive control and a moderately upright position, and the 700 x 30C tires balance rolling efficiency with enough volume for typical cracks and imperfections. Front and rear caliper brakes provide conventional braking, while sealed-bearing hubs and a sealed bottom bracket keep routine maintenance straightforward.

The design is deliberately restrained: smooth welds, minimal external hardware, a small wordmark rather than oversized logos, colour-matched components, clean cable routing, a narrow flat bar, a slim saddle and plain blackwall tires.

Despite the minimalist appearance, useful mounting points are discreetly integrated: rear rack, full-length mudguards, two bottle mounts and a kickstand mount. At approximately 9.7 kg it stays light enough to carry into apartments, offices and classrooms. It is not designed for technical mountain biking, BMX, track competition, aggressive gravel, long-distance touring, or very steep terrain.

Asked by Ryden team, 0 helpful votes
Is the Ryden Minimal a fixie?+

No. Its standard configuration uses a freewheel, so the rider can coast normally.

Can I coast?+

Yes. Stop pedalling and the bicycle continues moving normally.

How many gears does it have?+

One. There are no shifters or derailleurs.

What gearing does it use?+

The standard drivetrain is 44T front and 18T rear, providing a 2.44:1 ratio.

Why is its gearing easier than the other Ryden single-speeds?+

Minimal prioritises easy acceleration and casual urban riding rather than maximum speed.

Does it have brakes?+

Yes. Front and rear dual-pivot caliper brakes are included as standard.

Is it suitable for beginners?+

For someone who already knows how to ride a bicycle, the lack of gear controls makes operation particularly straightforward.

Can it handle hills?+

Gentle hills are manageable depending on rider fitness. Consistently steep terrain is better suited to a geared bicycle.

Can I install wider tires?+

The frame supports approximately 700 x 32C maximum, subject to the specific rim and tire combination.

Can I install a rear rack?+

Yes. Discreet rear rack mounting points are included.

Can I install mudguards?+

Yes. Compatible full-length mudguards can be fitted.

Is it suitable for commuting?+

Yes. Short-to-medium urban commuting is one of the Minimal’s main intended uses.

Why choose Minimal instead of Single X?+

Choose Minimal if you prioritise lower price, clean design, easier gearing and casual city riding. Choose Single X if you want a slightly lighter, more fitness-oriented bike with a better fork and wider tires.

What warranty is included?+

A 5-year limited frame warranty, a 2-year limited warranty on the fork, wheels and brakes, and a 1-year limited warranty on other components.
