Ryden Street Single – Rugged Single-Speed Urban Bike
The Ryden Street Single is a tough, agile single-speed bicycle built specifically for demanding everyday city riding. Featuring a double-butted 6061 aluminum frame, full chromoly fork, 45T x 17T freewheel drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, 700 x 35C puncture-protected tires, and reinforced double-wall wheels, it combines single-speed simplicity with the durability and braking confidence needed for rough streets, curbs, wet roads, and year-round commuting.
- ✓ Street-tough construction: double-butted aluminum frame, full chromoly fork, reinforced wheels and high-volume tires
- ✓ Hydraulic disc brakes: predictable braking in dry and wet conditions, a clear step up from caliper-braked single-speeds
- ✓ 700 x 35C puncture-protected tires: better cushioning, grip and resilience over broken asphalt
- ✓ Simple 45x17 drivetrain: a 2.65:1 ratio that works well for stop-and-go urban riding, with nothing to adjust
- ✓ Commuter-ready platform: front and rear rack, mudguard, bottle and kickstand mounting points
Single-speed simplicity, built for streets that punish bicycles
Cities are hard on bicycles. Potholes, broken asphalt, expansion joints, wet roads, repeated stops, curbs, debris and year-round commuting expose the weaknesses of lightweight city bikes. The Ryden Street Single is designed around that reality, keeping the mechanical simplicity that makes single-speeds attractive while strengthening the areas most relevant to daily urban use.
At its core is a double-butted 6061 aluminum frame paired with a full chromoly fork. Rather than chasing the lowest possible weight, the chassis prioritises durability and predictable handling. The wheels follow the same philosophy: reinforced double-wall alloy rims, stainless-steel spokes and sealed-bearing hubs built for repeated city use.
The tires matter just as much. 700 x 35C puncture-protected urban tires substantially increase air volume compared with narrow traditional fixie rubber, helping absorb rough pavement while adding grip and stability.
Braking receives a major upgrade. Instead of rim brakes, the Street Single uses front and rear hydraulic discs with 160 mm rotors and adjustable-reach levers, giving stronger, more consistent all-weather braking than the calipers used across the rest of the single-speed range.
The Ryden Street Protection System bundles the durability features: a reinforced puncture belt, high-volume 35C tires, reinforced double-wall rims, stainless-steel spokes, sealed-bearing hubs and a full chromoly fork.
The drivetrain stays deliberately simple: a 45T chainring and 17T freewheel give a 2.65:1 ratio, with no derailleurs, shifters or multiple chainrings. And because it is a freewheel bicycle rather than a fixie, riders can coast normally. Reinforced construction improves durability, but "street" does not imply stunt use: it is not intended for MTB trails, BMX, large jumps, aggressive gravel, downhill or track racing.

Questions about this product (15)
A (Ryden team): No. It is a freewheel single-speed bicycle.
Can I coast?+
Yes. The rear freewheel allows normal coasting.
How many gears does it have?+
One. There are no derailleurs or shifters.
What gearing does it use?+
The standard configuration is 45T x 17T, providing a 2.65:1 ratio.
Why does it use hydraulic disc brakes?+
It is designed for demanding everyday urban riding, so hydraulic discs provide stronger and more consistent braking across changing weather conditions.
What tires does it use?+
It uses 700 x 35C puncture-protected urban tires.
Can I install wider tires?+
Maximum clearance is approximately 700 x 40C, subject to the specific rim and tire combination.
Can it handle potholes?+
Its higher-volume tires and reinforced wheels tolerate normal rough-road conditions better than lightweight wheels. Riders should still avoid severe potholes and major impacts where possible.
Can I ride it off-road?+
Maintained hard-packed paths may be suitable, but it is not designed as a mountain or gravel bike.
Is it suitable for commuting?+
Yes. Everyday urban commuting is its primary purpose.
Can I install a rear rack?+
Yes. Dedicated rear rack mounts are included.
Can I install a front rack?+
Yes. The fork and frame provide compatible mounting points for an appropriate front carrier.
Can I install mudguards?+
Yes. Full-length mudguards can be fitted.
How does it differ from the Urban Fix?+
The Street Single is a freewheel-only commuter with hydraulic disc brakes, 35C tires, rugged construction and front plus rear cargo mounts. The Urban Fix is a lighter fixed-gear bike with a flip-flop hub, caliper brakes and 32C tires. Choose Street Single for a tough everyday commuter, Urban Fix for the fixed-gear experience.
What warranty is included?+
A 5-year limited frame warranty, a 2-year limited warranty on the chromoly fork, wheels and brakes, and a 1-year limited warranty on other components.
