Get on. Pedal. Brake. Coast. Repeat.

The Ryden Single X is built around the principle that a bicycle does not need dozens of gears to be useful. For riders living in relatively flat cities, complicated drivetrains add components, cables, maintenance and cost without necessarily improving the everyday riding experience.

Single X removes that complexity. Its drivetrain is a single front chainring, a single rear freewheel, a chain and a crankset. There are no derailleurs and no gear shifters. Unlike a fixed-gear bicycle, it allows the rider to coast: stop pedalling while moving and the rear wheel continues turning normally, which makes it immediately familiar to anyone who already rides a conventional bike.

A lightweight 6061 aluminum frame keeps overall weight low, while the carbon-blade fork reduces weight at the front and provides a more refined ride than a basic steel fork.

The 46T x 18T drivetrain provides a 2.56:1 ratio, roughly 69 gear inches. That is intentionally easier than the Fixie Pro’s 48x17, prioritising acceleration, stop-and-go city riding and moderate inclines over maximum flat-road speed.

The 700 x 32C tires reflect the same practical character, with more air volume than narrow road tires to smooth out cracks, rough asphalt, brick paths and everyday road imperfections. Front and rear brakes are fitted as standard.

Commuter compatibility is built in: rear rack mounts for panniers, mudguard mounts for wet weather, two bottle mounts and a kickstand mount. It is not designed for technical MTB trails, BMX, aggressive gravel, track racing, or consistently steep terrain.

Is the Single X a fixie?+

No. It is a freewheel single-speed bicycle. Unlike a fixed-gear bike, the pedals do not continuously rotate whenever the rear wheel is moving.

Can I coast on the Single X?+

Yes. Coasting is one of the main differences between the Single X and a dedicated fixed-gear setup.

How many gears does it have?+

One. There are no derailleurs or shifters.

What gearing does it use?+

The standard setup is 46T front and 18T rear, giving a 2.56:1 ratio.

Why use 46x18 instead of 48x17?+

The easier ratio better suits stop-and-go commuting and casual riders, while the Fixie Pro’s 48x17 setup is more performance oriented.

Is the Single X suitable for beginners?+

For riders who already know how to cycle, its straightforward controls make it particularly easy to operate because there are no gears to manage.

Can it handle hills?+

Gentle and some moderate hills are manageable depending on rider fitness. A geared bicycle is more appropriate for consistently steep terrain.

Does it have front and rear brakes?+

Yes. Both brakes are installed as standard.

Why does it have wider tires than the Fixie Pro?+

The 32C tires prioritise everyday comfort, grip and durability over maximum speed.

Can I install even wider tires?+

Frame clearance is approximately 700 x 35C, subject to the specific tire and rim combination.

Can I install a rear rack?+

Yes. Dedicated rack mounts are included on the frame.

Can I install mudguards?+

Yes. The frame and fork support compatible full-length mudguards.

Is a single-speed bicycle cheaper to maintain?+

It can be simpler and less expensive to maintain because there are fewer drivetrain components. Tires, brakes, chains, bearings and other parts still require routine maintenance.

What warranty is included?+

A 5-year limited frame warranty, a 2-year limited warranty on the fork, wheels and brakes, and a 1-year limited warranty on other components.
