Built for the long haul, fully loaded

The Ryden Expedition is built for cyclists whose adventures extend far beyond a single day. Whether you are crossing mountain ranges, exploring national parks, riding remote gravel roads, or setting off on multi-week bikepacking expeditions, the Expedition provides the stability, reliability, and cargo capacity needed for serious loaded adventure riding.

The lightweight triple-butted aluminium frame is engineered around expedition-focused geometry with a longer wheelbase and relaxed steering, providing excellent control even when fully loaded with camping equipment. The full carbon fork absorbs vibration while keeping weight down, and includes triple mounting bosses for cargo cages or extra water bottles.

Powered by Shimano's GRX 610 1x12 gravel groupset with a wide-range cassette, the Expedition offers dependable shifting and low climbing gears ideal for hauling luggage up steep mountain passes. The simple single-chainring drivetrain minimises maintenance on long trips far from a bike shop. Hydraulic disc brakes deliver reliable stopping in rain, mud, and loose gravel.

The bike rolls on durable tubeless-ready alloy wheels fitted with oversized 700x50C gravel tyres, the widest we fit, for exceptional grip and comfort across gravel roads, dirt tracks, rocky fire roads, and broken pavement, with clearance for tyres up to 53mm.

This is our most cargo-capable bike: the frame and fork carry front and rear racks, mudguards, frame bags, top-tube bags, cargo cages, and up to five bottle cages. A threaded BSA bottom bracket and internal cable routing simplify maintenance during long-distance travel, and the 140 kg maximum weight (including cargo) reflects a bike engineered to be loaded.

Where it fits in the Ryden range: the Expedition is our dedicated heavy-load expedition and touring bike, the most cargo-capable, most stable-under-load gravel bike we make. It is worth understanding how it relates to our other alloy gravel bikes. It shares a drivetrain approach with the Adventure (both use Shimano GRX 610 1x12), but the Expedition is purpose-built for carrying more: a burlier triple-butted frame (vs the Adventure's double-butted), wider 50C tyres (vs 45C), far more cargo mounts (five bottle cages plus front and rear racks), a longer, more stable wheelbase, and a higher 140kg-with-cargo capacity. Choose the Adventure if you want a lighter, all-round alloy gravel bike for mixed riding; choose the Expedition if you specifically plan heavy, self-supported, multi-day touring and want maximum cargo capacity and loaded stability. Our most affordable gravel bike is the 2x Pathfinder; above the alloy bikes sit our carbon models (the 1x Gravel Pro, 2x Explorer, and electronic Terra). For pure-pavement speed see our road bikes, for technical trails our mountain bikes, and for upright city riding our hybrid and city bikes.

How is it different from the Ryden Adventure?+

They share the same drivetrain (Shimano GRX 610 1x12), but they are built for different priorities. The Adventure is a lighter, all-round alloy gravel bike (9.8 kg) for mixed riding. The Expedition is purpose-built for carrying more: a burlier triple-butted frame, wider 50C tyres (vs 45C), far more cargo mounts (five bottle cages plus front and rear rack mounts, vs the Adventure’s setup), a longer, more stable wheelbase, and a higher 140kg-with-cargo capacity. Choose the Adventure for a lighter all-round bike; choose the Expedition if you specifically plan heavy, self-supported, multi-day touring. If you do not carry heavy loads, the Adventure is likely the better fit; if loaded touring is your goal, the Expedition is built for it.

Can it carry front and rear panniers?+

Yes, this is what it is built for. The frame and fork take front racks, rear racks, panniers, cargo cages, and bikepacking bags, with front and rear rack mounts and up to five bottle cages. It is our most cargo-capable bike.

Is it suitable for long-distance touring?+

Absolutely, it is our most touring-focused gravel bike. Its expedition geometry, wide-range 1x gearing, stability under load, and extensive cargo mounts make it ideal for multi-day and multi-week adventures.

Can it handle rough terrain?+

Yes. The oversized 700x50C tyres and stable geometry perform very well on gravel roads, dirt tracks, forest roads, and rocky fire roads, though, like our other gravel bikes, it is not intended for technical mountain-bike trails. For technical off-road, see our mountain bikes.

Can I upgrade to even wider tyres?+

Yes. The frame supports tyres up to 700x53C, the widest clearance in our range, for even greater comfort and traction on demanding routes. It ships with 700x50C tyres.

Is it tubeless compatible?+

Yes. Both the wheels and tyres are tubeless-ready for improved puncture resistance, traction, and comfort, valuable on remote routes where you want to minimise flats.

What does the 140 kg weight limit include?+

The 140 kg maximum is a total that includes both rider and cargo, the highest capacity in our range, and stated this way because the bike is built to be loaded. When planning a trip, count your body weight plus all your gear, bags, water, and equipment against the 140 kg total.

How much assembly is required?+

The bike arrives approximately 90% assembled. Final installation of the front wheel, handlebars, pedals, and seatpost is required, typically 30 to 60 minutes for someone comfortable with basic bike mechanics. Tools and instructions are included.

What warranty is included?+

Lifetime warranty on the aluminium frame, 5-year warranty on the carbon fork, 2-year warranty on Shimano components, and 2-year warranty on the wheelset. Full terms in our Warranty Policy.

Why should I choose the Ryden Expedition?+

It is built for riders who dream of exploring beyond the map. Its expedition geometry, aluminium frame, carbon fork, GRX 1x12 drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, oversized tubeless tyres, and extensive cargo mounts make it purpose-built for self-supported adventures and endurance touring: Ryden’s dedicated expedition gravel bike, for journeys that begin where the pavement ends.
