A smarter way to travel
The Ryden E-City is designed for riders who want to leave traffic behind and enjoy a cleaner, easier, more enjoyable way to travel. Whether you are commuting to work, running errands, or exploring the city on weekends, the E-City delivers effortless performance with Bosch's trusted mid-drive motor.
Its lightweight hydroformed aluminium frame places you in an upright, comfortable position for excellent visibility and confidence in traffic. The integrated Bosch PowerTube battery keeps the design clean and the centre of gravity low for stable handling.
The Bosch Performance Line motor delivers up to 75 Nm of torque, natural pedal assistance that makes hills feel flatter and long rides much easier. You choose the assistance level on the Bosch Purion display to balance power and range. The Shimano CUES 10-speed drivetrain shifts smoothly across city streets and moderate hills, and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes (with a larger 180mm front rotor for the extra weight and speed of an e-bike) give reliable stopping in all weather.
The E-City arrives fully equipped for daily commuting: integrated front and rear LED lights powered by the main battery, full-coverage mudguards, a heavy-duty rear cargo rack, a kickstand, a chain guard, a bell, ergonomic grips, and puncture-resistant tyres. A suspension fork (with lockout), a suspension seatpost, and a gel saddle smooth out potholes and rough city surfaces, and an adjustable stem tailors the fit.
Pedal assistance is provided up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph), the standard for many international markets, and the system can be configured for applicable regional regulations. Note that e-bike laws, including power limits, speed limits, classification, and any licensing or registration requirements, vary by country and even by region; please confirm the rules that apply where you ride before purchase (see Shipping, Returns & Legal below).
Where it fits in the Ryden range: the E-City is our fully-equipped electric commuter bike, the middle of our three commuter e-bikes. It is built for riders who want the comfort and practicality of a fully-equipped city bike with the effortless assistance of a premium Bosch motor system, to replace car trips and make every commute easier. Above it sits our smart, connected E-Commute, which shares the same 625Wh battery and suspension fork but adds the Bosch Smart System with eBike Flow app connectivity, an upgraded 11-speed drivetrain, 4-piston brakes, and premium tyres. Below it sits our lighter, more minimalist E-Urban, which uses a smaller 545Wh battery, a rigid alloy fork, and no included rack, at 22.6 kg. Choose the E-City for a fully-equipped commuter with maximum range and comfort; choose the E-Commute for smart connectivity and premium components; choose the E-Urban for the lightest, sleekest, most affordable option. Questions about this product (14)
A (Ryden team): The E-City is ideal for commuters, urban riders, recreational cyclists, and anyone looking for an efficient, comfortable alternative to driving. It is our premium electric commuter bike, fully equipped and ready to replace car trips.
How is it different from the Ryden E-Commute?+
Both are fully-equipped commuter e-bikes with the same 625Wh battery and 63mm suspension fork. The E-Commute, our commuter flagship, steps up with the Bosch Smart System and eBike Flow app connectivity (navigation, ride analytics, security, over-the-air updates), an 11-speed drivetrain, 4-piston brakes, premium Schwalbe tyres, higher cargo capacity, brighter 120-lux lights, and a USB port. The E-City gives you the same fully-equipped commuter platform (625Wh battery, suspension fork and seatpost, included rack) without the smart connectivity, at a lower price. Choose the E-City to save on the connectivity and premium components; choose the E-Commute if you want the smartest, best-equipped commuter.
How is it different from the Ryden E-Urban?+
Both use the same Bosch Performance Line motor, so the assistance feels identical; the differences are equipment, battery, and weight. The E-City is the fully-equipped, longer-range bike: a larger 625Wh battery, a suspension fork and suspension seatpost, and an included rear cargo rack, at 24.8 kg. The E-Urban is lighter (22.6 kg), sleeker, more minimalist, and more affordable, with a smaller 545Wh battery, a rigid alloy fork, and no included rack. Choose the E-City for maximum range, comfort, and a fully-equipped commuter; choose the E-Urban for the lightest, most agile, best-styled city e-bike.
How far can I ride on one charge?+
It depends heavily on assist mode, terrain, rider and cargo weight, and conditions. The 625Wh battery gives up to 120 km (75 miles) in Eco mode, up to 95 km in Tour, up to 70 km in Sport, and up to 55 km in Turbo. These are best-case figures for each mode; real range varies, and hilly terrain, heavier loads, or cold weather will reduce it. See the Range & motor tab for the full breakdown.
How long does it take to charge the battery?+
The included Bosch 4A fast charger fully charges the battery in approximately 4.5 to 5 hours.
Is the battery removable?+
Yes. The Bosch PowerTube battery is fully removable, so you can charge it indoors or at the office rather than needing an outlet next to the bike, and it reduces the bike’s weight for lifting.
Does the bike work without battery assistance?+
Yes. The E-City rides like a standard bicycle with the motor off or the battery depleted. Note that at about 24.8 kg it is heavier than a non-assisted bike, so unassisted riding takes more effort.
Is it suitable for hills?+
Absolutely. The Bosch Performance Line motor produces up to 75 Nm of torque, making steep climbs much easier while keeping a natural pedalling feel, one of the main benefits of a mid-drive motor.
Is it suitable for carrying groceries or work bags?+
Yes. The integrated rear cargo rack takes panniers, baskets, and commuter bags, and the bike is rated to 140 kg including rider and cargo, ideal for shopping and commuting.
Is the bike waterproof?+
The electrical system is weather-resistant and designed for riding in rain, but it must not be submerged or pressure-washed (doing so can cause damage not covered by warranty). Wipe it down rather than hosing it.
Is the E-City road-legal where I live?+
That depends on your location: e-bike laws vary by country and often by region. The E-City provides assistance up to 25 km/h with a 250W motor (the standard for many markets, including the EU/UK pedelec standard) and can be configured for regional regulations, but classification, licensing, registration, and where you can ride differ by market. Please confirm the rules that apply where you ride before purchase, see the Shipping, Returns & Legal section, and contact our support team with your location if you would like help understanding the options.
How much assembly is required?+
The bike arrives approximately 90% assembled and fully equipped. Final installation of the front wheel, handlebars, pedals, and seatpost is required, typically 30 to 60 minutes. Tools and instructions are included, along with the Bosch system guide.
What warranty is included?+
Lifetime warranty on the aluminium frame, 5-year warranty on the Bosch motor, 3-year warranty on the Bosch battery, and 2-year warranty on components (including the suspension fork and electrical accessories). Full terms in our Warranty Policy.
Why should I choose the Ryden E-City?+
It is a premium electric bike for modern urban living: a Bosch mid-drive motor, long-range removable battery, Shimano drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, full commuter equipment, and an exceptionally comfortable riding position combine for a smooth, reliable, enjoyable commute. Whether replacing a daily car journey or just making every ride easier, it is built to be dependable everyday transport.
